Cub Scout Olympics** (June)

Each Scout has the opportunity to compete within his age category in ten events: 50 yard dash, 100 yard dash, 30 yard hurdles, shuttle run, obstacle course, javelin, discus, shot put, standing long jump, and running long jump. See http://www.nationalpike.org/2004OlympicsFlyer.doc for more details on the June 12th offering this year.
Rocket Derby (April and May)
Rocket Derby is a non-competitive fun event. The boys (with parent(s)) put together rockets within each den. They can optionally decorate/label them... they all get put in a pool to launch and soar. We go to an open field at CHS where a safety area of launch pads are utilized to host the rockets with engines that the parents attach. The boys take turns "pressing the button" from a safe distance to launch the rockets and they soar quite a distance! The most fun is when they chase after them and return to repeat the process until the engines are gone or when the rockets are. We start with smaller engines and progress to larger ones... the larger they are, the further they go.

Pinewood Derby (Jan. or Feb.)
Pinewood derby is a competitive event that has each scout making and racing a pinewood derby car. Cars are small models of specified dimensions, created, carved and assembled by the boys, under the guidance of their parents or other family members. The cars are gravity powered and run down on a regulation track. Pack rules are posted at or near car distribution time.
Uniform Inspection (varies)
Scouts may be visited by the Cubmaster, assistant Cubmaster or other leader at a pre-designated den meeting. The leader will provide positive feedback on their uniforms with guidance provided by the BSA uniform inspection guide. This activity may just be a discussion at part of a pack meeting... each year is different.
